We are hopeful that spring has finally arrived as we welcome the month of May!

As we enter the final months of the school year, we’re excited to share that many special events are planned for our students and families. On May 4, we look forward to bringing our community together for an outdoor celebration filled with music. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in the fun.

May is also a time to recognize the importance of mental health. Students are encouraged to show their support by wearing a favorite hat on May 6.

Thank you for your continued support. Auburn Bay truly is a special place, and it takes a team effort to create a community grounded in kindness, care, and a strong sense of belonging.

Volunteers

A heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers who give their time and energy to support Auburn Bay students and our school. Your dedication makes a meaningful difference in our community, and we truly couldn’t do it without you. We appreciate you being in our school and going on field trips supporting students and staff.

On behalf of all of us, we are incredibly grateful for everything you do!

School Council and Fundraising Society

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our wonderful School Council and Fundraising Society who have continued to support our school all year. A few examples of what Council/Fundraising Society purchases to support the students and staff- teaching and learning include: cost of a field trip and bus for each class; Professional Learning for teachers including “Adrienne Gear Reading Power” and “Layers of Literacy”; Sensory Room marble panel and art wall; document cameras for classroom, new storage units for classrooms; residencies including Lacrosse; school wide Calgary Opera performance; new speaker for our sound system; books for the Learning Commons; winter concert and Music Monday items; and working on an outdoor learning space (more info to come!). They also set up school community activities such as food trucks for the Open House and end of year celebrations and the Spring Dance. Thank you!

Music Monday (May 4)

We are excited to have everyone gather on Monday, May 4 at 1:00 PM outside in the back of the school to watch all of our wonderful students perform. Music is an important way to bring us all together and fill our hearts. Please refer to the email sent on April 27 for more information about this event. “May The 4 Be With You”!

Hats On! For Mental Health

The week of May 4-10 is Mental Health Week in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association. On Wednesday, May 6, we will participate in "Hats On! For Mental Health Day". We encourage all students and staff to wear a hat to show support and raise awareness for mental health. This important week aligns with our everyday focus on belonging and fostering kindness. Together we continue to make Auburn Bay a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Safe Crossing

Thank you so much to everyone for using the crosswalks before and after school. We have noticed a huge decrease in the number of people jaywalking in front of the school. This is fabulous and we hope to see this continue! A huge thank you to our wonderful student patrols who are working hard to keep everyone safe!

Bikes and Rollerblades

It is wonderful that the nice weather is allowing for students to start to walking, riding bikes/scooters and rollerblading to school. So awesome to see!

We would like to ask that adults please remind students that once on immediate school property that they need to slow down and walk bikes to the bike racks. Students should also be bringing locks to secure their bikes/scooters to the racks. Students can take off and put on their rollerblades inside their assigned doors. Teachers have also shared this information with their students. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Dogs on School Property

Our hope is that the weather will be warming up soon! As this happens, we know our furry friends would like to come along for a walk to pick up/drop off at school. We would like to remind our community that according to the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, dogs are not allowed on school grounds, playgrounds and sports fields. This regulation is in place for several reasons.

  1. Children play on the property and dogs, through no fault of their own, can create unsanitary conditions.
  2. Dogs can become overly excited when around children and other dogs which can result in barking and jumping.
  3. Most importantly, some children are fearful of dogs and should not have to face that fear when coming to and from school. Schools provide a safe, welcoming and caring place for ALL students.

The restricted area for dogs includes the entire soccer field, the compound, the grassed areas, playgrounds and all sidewalks that lead to school entrances. We appreciate your support with this.

2026-2027 CBE Calendar

The CBE has made a small change to next year’s instructional calendar. The non-instructional day previously identified for Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, was moved to Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, to accommodate the provincial referendum that would see schools utilized as polling sites. The updated calendar is available HERE
