November News | Fall Break, Conferences, Fun Lunches, Fees, Attendance, After School, Safe Driving, Concerts, Weather, Webinar

Wow! Time is sure flying by and we are starting to see the weather change, also. We wanted to send a huge thank you to our School Council for organizing a fun and exciting Halloween Dance. If you were not able to make the dance, Council will be sharing information at a later date about a fun community movie night in December.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our families for the continued support. It makes Auburn Bay such a wonderful place to be! In November, we hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing fall break.

Healthy Hunger

Link: https://www.healthyhunger.ca/
We do not accept orders at the school. You must order online at Healthyhunger.ca. Kindergarten, please only order on fun snack days.

Cut off for ordering is 5 days before the fun lunch/snack. If your child is away on the day of, please email auburnbay@cbe.ab.ca by 10:30am to make arrangements for pickup.  Please ensure that you do pick up before 1:00pm.  If we do not hear from you by 10:30am, it will be disposed of or given away. You can cancel future orders as long as it is before the 5 business day cut off.

School Fees

Fees can now be paid on your MyCBE account online.

Hoodies

All Hoodie orders have been filled. The fee is now on your MyCBE account for payment, no cash please. If you have not placed an order for the hoodies yet and wish to do so, please see attached form under Resources and return to the office.

Lunch Supervision

If you have been staying for lunch and have not registered, please log into your MyCBE and register. There is a fee if staying for lunch.

Student Supplies

The fee is now on your MyCBE account for payment.

Field Trip Fees

These will be added once available (sometimes after the forms have gone home). Please note: most field trips are booked months in advance, which means the price is calculated based off the number of students in the class. If your child ends up being absent on the field trip day, we are not able to reimburse the payment. The school needs to cover the expense for any unpaid and this takes away from student learning funds.

Milk Program

This is separate from Lunch supervision. If you signed up for milk, the fee is on your MyCBE account for payment.

Attendance

If you know that your child will be away or late, it is important to let the office and the teacher know. Please email your teacher and the school at auburnbay@cbe.ab.ca

After School

Just a reminder that there is no school supervision at this time and supervision of parents/guardians is encouraged to help minimize any problems.

Safe Driving and Parking

Safe driving and parking around the school is everyone’s responsibility. There is no parking in the bus zone in front of the school. There is a stopping zone to drop off or pick up ahead of the bus zone. Please read the signs carefully to know where these areas are. For safety, do not park in crosswalks and to respect our community neighbors, do not park in front of driveways. Parking authority comes out on randoms days to make sure these rules are being followed. We want to make sure all students and families are safe.

Winter Concerts

It is very exciting this year that we will be having in-person Winter Concerts! In early November, we will share more details about the dates and times.

Winter Weather

Winter is once again upon us. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather with warm coats, hats, mitts and boots. It is important to have all items labelled with your child’s name.

Blue days, when we will be indoors, are implemented when the temperature is minus 20 (including wind chill) and we use the temperature reading on our school website to determine this.

Please use caution when walking on sidewalks, the compound and the field around the school. They can get very icy and we want to make sure everyone is safe. Ice melt is used only on the main sidewalks but the doors.

Focus on Child & Youth Well-being

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

Child and Youth Well-Being:
A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.

Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.

The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.

Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

Sincerely,
Lisa Thibeau
