We have had a wonderful start to the 2024-2025 school year at Auburn Bay School!

Thank you to everyone that came out for our Open House last Thursday. It was a rainy night, but it is always great to have an opportunity to get everyone together and into the school to meet the staff and see the classrooms. Seeing all the smiles and enjoying the positive conversations was heartwarming. We have such a supportive Auburn Bay Community! Thank you also to our School Council for organizing the food trucks.

Terry Fox Run

Auburn Bay School is getting ready for the 2024 Terry Fox School Run! We’re super excited to take part in this annual tradition that supports cancer research while building school spirit.

If you would like to support our school’s fundraising efforts and donate today, you can do so at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/AuburnBaySchool

We will also be collecting “Toonies for Terry” from Tuesday, Sept. 17 to Friday, Sept. 20.

On Sept. 20 at 10:00 AM (weather permitting), the staff and students will start in the gym for an assembly and then head outside to participate in a short run/walk. Most classes will be participating with their buddy classes.

Afternoon kindergarten classes that are not at school that day, please see the email with information from your child’s teacher.

Orange Shirt Day

The Government of Canada proclaimed Sept. 30 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Because this day is being observed and there is no school on Sept. 30, students and staff at Auburn Bay School will acknowledge our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 26. Everyone is encouraged to wear an Orange shirt to recognize the importance of this day.

For more information on Orange Shirt Day, please see: https://orangeshirtday.org/

School Council

Our next Council meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:00 PM. If you are interested in joining, please come to the front doors of the school at 6:00 PM. We are always looking forward to meeting new people who would like to join. No babysitting is provided.

Traffic Safety

We are asking for everyone’s support and help in making sure all of our students and families are safe before and after school. Auburn Bay is a very busy school and traffic concerns are continuing.

Please Remember

*Do not park or drop off in the staff parking lot.

*Obey the traffic signs in front of the school. We have busses that arrive before and after school and to provide space and safety for them, there is NO parking or drop off in the bus zones. There is a drop off zone labeled past the big red chair.

*Do not drop your child off by stopping in the middle of the road and having them get out of the vehicle.

*Do not jaywalk in front of the school. When crossing between cars and buses, other traffic cannot see you.

*Obey the speed limit of the school zone (30 kms/hr)

We are in the process of working with AMA to set the patrol program with our Grade 5 students. We were not able to do this prior to having Grade 5 students, as that is the youngest they are able to participate in the program. We have been on the waiting list and our hope is that we will have this set up to support the safety at the crosswalk by December.

In the meantime, we have a parent that has offered to organize parents support in patrolling at the crosswalk until then. If you are interested in joining this community support for the school, you will need to have a current Police Clearance and signed the annual CBE Volunteer form (on your MyCBE account). You can then email or stop by the school to add your name to the interest list. We will share your name with the parent volunteer who is leading this group and setting up a schedule for morning and after school coverage.

We appreciate those who have offered support and help with this issue. We recognize that traffic and safety has been a concern since the school opening and we are looking forward to implementing these solutions to keep our students and families safe. Working together as a community will make positive change.
