Mid-September 2026 Monthly Update
We are off to a fabulous start to the 2026–2027 school year! It has been wonderful to see so many smiles, hear the laughter, and watch friendships grow and reconnect throughout our school. Thank you to our amazing staff, students, and families for making the start of the year so positive, welcoming, and full of excitement.
We are looking forward to welcoming families to our Open House on September 17th. Everyone is invited to come explore our classrooms, meet our staff, and connect with our school community. Be sure to come hungry! Our generous School Council has organized food trucks for everyone to enjoy throughout the evening.
We can’t wait to see you there and celebrate the start of another amazing school year together!

Parking and Drop Off
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all our families for following the parking and drop-off rules at Auburn Bay School! During this first week back, the bus lanes have remained open and drop-offs have been in the correct locations. We appreciate all the support with this to keep all students safe. THANK YOU!
Outdoor Learning Space
Thank you to our generous School Council/Fundraising Society for funding our Outdoor Learning Space. If you have not seen it yet, it is on the school side by the parking lot and looks amazing. Classes have already been using it to enjoy learning in an alternate environment.
A fence will be installed around the grass area at some point this year.

Attendance
If your child will be absent or late, please make sure to call or email the school. if we do not hear from you, an email is sent in the AM & PM.
Orange Shirt Day
The Government of Canada proclaimed Sept. 30 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Because this day is being observed and there is no school on Sept. 30th, students and staff at Auburn Bay School will acknowledge our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation on Sept 29th. Everyone is encouraged to wear an Orange shirt to recognize the importance of this day.
For more information on Orange Shirt Day, please see: https://orangeshirtday.org/
Dogs on School Property
We would like to remind our community that according to the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, dogs are not allowed on school grounds, playgrounds and sports fields. This regulation is in place for several reasons.
- Children play on the property and dogs, through no fault of their own can create unsanitary conditions.
- Dogs can become overly excited when around children and other dogs which can result in barking and jumping.
- Most importantly, we have some students that are fearful of dogs and should not have to face that fear when coming to and from school.
The restricted area for dogs includes the entire soccer field, the compound, the grassed areas, playgrounds and all sidewalks that lead to school entrances. We appreciate your support with this.
Literacy and Numeracy Screeners
Alberta Education & Childcare collects information about literacy and numeracy screening assessments for all students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 (Grade 4 and 5 new this year). Provincial assessment programs are meant to complement, not replace, day-to-day teacher observations and classroom assessment.
For more information please see: https://www.alberta.ca/literacy-and-numeracy-screening
On this site, there is a chart showing what grades engage in these assessments during various times of the year.
