Welcome Back! September 2026 Monthly Update
Dear Auburn Bay Families,
It's hard to believe that summer is already coming to an end and that we are getting ready to welcome everyone back to school! We hope you have had a wonderful summer filled with time spent with family and friends, lots of fun, and plenty of opportunities to relax and recharge.
A very warm welcome to all of our new Auburn Bay families, and welcome back to those who are returning! We are incredibly fortunate to have such amazing students, staff, and families who make Auburn Bay such a special place to be. We are excited to continue working together to build a strong sense of belonging within a safe and caring school community where everyone feels welcome. It will be a wonderful 2026-2027 school year. Auburn Bay is the best place to be!
We also invite you to follow us on Instagram to stay connected and see some of the wonderful things happening at our school: @auburnbaycbe
We know our back-to-school email is always a little longer than usual, but there is lots of important information to share as we get ready for the new school year. Thank you for taking the time to read through it and for helping us start the year off smoothly.
Our staff have been busy preparing for the arrival of students and are excited to fill our school with learning, laughter, friendships, and fun once again. We can't wait to see all of our students' smiling faces and begin another wonderful year together!
Enjoy these final days of summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, August 31!

Not Returning to Auburn Bay?
We know that changes and moves happen over the summer. If you have received this email and are no longer attending Auburn Bay School, please email the office as soon as possible.
First Day of School - Monday, August 31
We are looking forward to welcoming students back on Monday, August 31! Grades 1-5 and EES families will receive an email from your child's new teacher by end of day on Thursday, August 27. This email will introduce your child's teacher as well as first day of school information, including a map of what door your child will enter and exit from.
For Kindergarten students, you should have received your package in the spring with information about the staggered entry. Please contact the office if you are a Kindergarten family and did not receive the spring email.
Open House - Thursday, September 17 | 4:00 - 6:00 PM
Auburn Bay will be having an Open House on Thursday, September 17 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. This will provide an opportunity for families to meet staff and see classrooms. School Council has kindly organized food trucks for the evening. Please mark your calendars - we would love to see everyone!
School Supplies
Students only need to bring the following to school:
- Indoor shoes
- Water bottle
- Lunch kit (if staying for lunch)
- Backpack
Please make sure all items are labeled with your child's name. All other supplies are purchased by the school using the mandatory school fee, which will be added to your MyCBE account by mid-October.
School Website and Updates
Please see our school website for the most up-to-date information.
A monthly email will be sent from the school with updates. Teachers will share information in their welcome back email about their Instagram accounts where you can see what your child is learning in class.
The school calendar can be found here. A printable version is available on the left side of the webpage.
Lunch Supervision
If your child will be staying for lunch, please register for lunch supervision through your MyCBE account. The fee will not be added until mid-October. If needed, applying for a waiver can also be done through MyCBE. Supervision will start on the first day, even if you have not registered yet.
If your child goes home for lunch, you do not need to register, however please email the school and your child's teacher to let us know. Students who go home for lunch are to return at the end of their scheduled lunch time and not any earlier.
Attendance
If your child will be absent or late, please make sure to call or email the school.
School Entry and Dismissal
We will continue with the soft entry start and doors will open in the morning at 7:50 AM. Students are to enter through their grade doors, as shared in the teacher welcome email. Morning doors will close at 8:00 AM, as instruction time needs to start at this time. Students that arrive after 8:00 AM need to go through the front doors and sign in at the office.
Students will be dismissed at 2:30 PM and will exit through their grade doors. Fridays are early dismissal at 12:00 PM.
Drop Off and Parking
There is no parking or student drop-off in the staff parking lot or bus lanes in front of the school. Please follow the signs for drop-off areas. We appreciate your support with this to keep all students safe.
Walking Distance Field Trips
We are lucky to be in a community where there are many learning opportunities within walking distance of the school. These do not require a signed form from guardians, but teachers will send an email to let families know prior to these occurring so that students can dress appropriately and adults are aware.
School Council
We have a supportive and generous School Council that organizes and provides exciting learning opportunities and fun activities for staff, students, and families! Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 10 at 6:00 PM. If you are interested in joining, please come to the front doors of the school at this time. Please note that babysitting is not provided.
Mobile Devices
To align with the government Ministerial Order about personal mobile devices, the Calgary Board of Education has policies in place. Please find the "Away for the Day" policy and other guidelines and expectations for K-9 students here.
Personal electronic devices include any that can be used to communicate with others or access the internet, such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, gaming devices, laptops, Bluetooth speakers and headphones, or any other personal electronic device.
We highly recommend that these personal devices be left at home. However, we understand some students may need these for various reasons before and/or after school. Any devices brought to school must be powered off or set to silent mode and stored out of sight in backpacks. Schools are not responsible for any lost or damaged devices.
Thank you for supporting us with these expectations to help provide the best possible learning environments for all. If needed, staff will support students who need to contact an adult during the school day using the class or office phone. For students who require access to a personal mobile device for health and medical needs, please contact the office.
Patrols and Crosswalks
Over the last few years, we have had a very successful Patrol Program. The Grade 5 team will be working once again to set up the AMA student patrol program. However, students and staff are not allowed to start until training has been completed. Once training is complete and teams are created, patrols will start at the crosswalk. We will share more information once the training has been set up.
Please be aware that there will not be any safety patrols or supervision at the crosswalks until the program is set up.
