Dear Auburn Bay Families,
Once again, we are at that time where summer is coming to an end, and we are preparing to head back to school. We hope everyone enjoyed their time with friends and family!
Welcome to the new families coming to Auburn Bay and welcome back to those returning. At Auburn Bay we have the most amazing students, staff and families and we are excited to continue our work together in creating a strong sense of belonging in a safe and caring environment where all are welcome. Auburn Bay is the best place to be!

We know the back-to-school email is always a bit longer than normal, but there is important information to share at this time. Thank you for taking the time to read through it.
Staff are busy preparing for students and looking forward to filling to school with learning, fun, laughter and friendships. We can’t wait to see all the smiling faces back at school soon. Enjoy the last few days of summer and we will see everyone on Tuesday, September 2!

Not Returning to Auburn Bay
We know that changes and moves happen over the summer. If you have received this email and are no longer attending Auburn Bay School, please email the office as soon as possible.
First Day of School
We are looking forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, September 2!
Grades 1-5 and EES families will receive an email from your child’s new teacher by end of day on Thursday, August 28. This email will introduce your child’s teacher, as well as first day of school information, including a map of what door your child will enter and exit from. For Kindergarten students, you should have received your package in the spring with information about the staggered entry.
Open House
Auburn Bay will be having an Open House on Thursday, September 18 from 4:00-6:00 pm. This will provide an opportunity for families to meet teachers and see classrooms. School Council has kindly organized for food trucks to be here for the evening. Please mark your calendars, as we would love to see everyone!
School Supplies
Students only need to bring the following to school: indoor shoes; water bottle; lunch kit (if staying for lunch) and a backpack. Please make sure all items are labeled with your child’s name. All other supplies are purchased by the school using the mandatory school fee which will be added to your MyCBE account by mid-October.
School Website/Updates
Please see our school website for the most up to date information.
A monthly email will be sent from the school with updates. Teachers will share information in their welcome back email about their Instagram accounts where you can see what your child is learning in class.
School Calendar
The school calendar can be found here. There is also a printable version available here.
Lunch Supervision
If your child will be staying for lunch, please make sure to register for lunch supervision on your MyCBE account. The fee will not be added until mid-October. If needed, applying for a waiver can be done through your MyCBE account.
Supervision will start on the first day, even if you have not registered yet. If your child is going home for lunch, you do not need to register. However, please email the school and your child’s teacher to let us know. If you child goes home for lunch, they are to return at the end of their scheduled lunch time and not any earlier.
Attendance
If your child will be absent or late, please make sure to call or email the school.
School Entry and Dismissal
We will continue with the soft entry start and doors will open in the morning at 7:50 am. Students are to enter through their grade doors (shared in the teacher welcome email). Please note the change in time - morning doors will close at 8:00 am, as instruction time needs to start at this time. Students that arrive after 8:00 am will need to go through the front doors and sign in at the office.
Students will be dismissed at 2:30 pm and will exit through their grade doors. Fridays are early dismissal at 12:00 pm.
Walking Distance Field Trips
We are lucky to be in a community where there are many learning opportunities within walking distance of the school. These do not require a signed form from guardians, but teachers will send an email to let families know prior to these occurring so that students can dress appropriately and adults are aware.
School Council
We have a wonderful School Council that supports and provides exciting learning opportunities and fun activities for staff, students and families!
Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 11 at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in joining, please come to the front doors of the school at this time. We are always looking forward to meeting new people who would like to join. Babysitting is not provided.
Mobile Devices
To align with the government Ministerial Order about personal mobile devices, the Calgary Board of Education has policies in place. Please find the “Away for the Day” policy and other guidelines and expectation for K-9 students on the Student Personal Mobile Devices page.
Personal electronic devices include any that can be used to communicate with others or access the internet (cell phones, smart watches, tablets, gaming devices, laptops, Bluetooth speakers/headphones or any other personal electronic device).
We highly recommend that these personal devices be left at home; however, we understand some students may need these for various reasons before and/or after school. Any devices that are brought to school must be powered off or set in silent mode and stored out of sight in backpacks. Schools are not responsible for any lost or damaged devices.
Thank you for supporting us with these expectations to help provide the best possible learning environments for all. If needed, staff will support students that need to contact an adult during the school day (use of the class or office phone). For students who require access to a personal mobile device for health and medical needs, please contact the office.
Patrols and Crosswalks
Last year we had fabulous parent volunteers and Grade 5 students patrolling the “L” crosswalk near the school to provide support for the safe crossing of students and families. The Grade 5 team will be working once again to set up the AMA student patrol program; however, students and staff are not allowed to start until training has been completed. AMA sends out the training dates and we are waiting to hear when Auburn Bay’s date is. We have requested an early as possible date in September and will share further information once it is available.
Please be aware that there will not be any safety patrols at the crosswalks until the program is set up.
The administration team has been working closely with the city to provide other supports for safe crossing. Many may have noticed the new “No U-Turn” sign by the staff parking lot. The timeline for the RRFB (flashing rectangular light on the post at the “L” crosswalk) is behind schedule from what was originally shared and they will be starting to install it early September and it should be operational by October.
